My Man Jim

It's no political secret that I supported Jim Henry for Tenn. Gov. -- against the best wishes of many o' my conservative friends -- back in 2002.

I never bought into Van Hilleary 's assertion(s) that Jim Henry was Don Sundquist in disguise. Hell, truth be known, I didn't buy into many things Van Hilleary had do say back in '02. But, I digress ...

Jim "Former TN House GOP Minority Leader/GOP Guv'na Candidate" Henry is a family friend, and, well, here's his latest e-mail:

To my friends, from Jim Henry,

Pete Chaney is my friend and political ally. He is also a writer. He has edited magazines and newspapers for over half a century, including Commercial Network Magazine for Bill Raines in Chattanooga. As an author, he wrote “One Day at a Time,” the biography of gospel singer Cristy Lane.

Now he has published a historical novel--“Valley of the Mules”--which tells the story of the development of America from 1784 to 1838. The story is centered around Chattanooga, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. Fictional characters mix with real historical figures—Andrew Jackson, Davy Crockett, Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr. It covers the War of 1812, the Creek Indian War of 1813, the Alamo, slave uprisings, giving a face of history you never saw.

I recommend it as an exceptional Christmas gift for yourself and others. The cost is $14.95. Shipping and handling will be waived for the holidays. You can order your First Edition copy by going to the web site:

http://valleyofthemules.com/Xmas%20special.htm

A gift card will be included showing it from you to the person you wish to receive it, and it will be autographed personally to that individual.

One day you may have a collector’s item with this novel. The First Edition is a limited printing and will not be duplicated.

Jim

Want an "inside look" into life in North Korea? I highly recommend -- nay, urge -- you to read this comic:

That said, bellow you'll find a story that recently appeared on the North Korean government's official Web site. For the life of me I cannot figure out what the hell it's supposed to mean.

Perhaps one of my Commie readers'll enlighten me via e-mail, and reference Dreams From My Father, when appropriate ...

Story about Crust of Overcooked Rice

Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung came to his residence late on a summer evening of Juche 35 (1946) together with an official who was in charge of the construction of Kim Il Sung University to discuss the project with him.

A woman informed anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk of the fact that President Kim Il Sung came with a guest.

Kim Jong Suk said in a low voice that for the heated discussion of work, the President didn't inform her of his coming with the guest; she prepared the table regardless of her evening meal and entered the room carrying the table with her.

When the woman said with tearful eyes that she would skip her evening meal again, Kim Jong Suk replied with a smile that there was the crust of overcooked rice, adding that she would like to prepare tables ten times a day for those who were devoting themselves to the efforts for the construction of the country, true to the leadership of the President.

At that time there was nothing special in the residence compared with the people's life.

Not a day passed without preparing the table for the visitors to the residence. So she was often to eat the crust of overcooked rice for her meal as she prepared the meals for the visitors with the rice rationed like ordinary people.

How quickly the mighty can fall ...

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 27% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -15. This is the lowest Approval Index rating yet measured for President Obama.

Read it all here.

Not the role of his lifetime, thus far ...

Remember the scene in The Godfather in which Don Corleone slaps Johnny Fontane and tells him to "Act like a man!"? Sometimes I think someone in the White House needs to give President Obama a slap and tell him to "Act like a President!" (Perhaps Hillary Clinton could do it. I mean, she does have the biggest pair o' balls - so I've heard - of any senior member of the Obama Administration.)

The Bill of Particulars against ol' B. Hussein as a non-President is long and growing. It was bad enough when he ceded authority for the now ill-fated stimulus, as well as health care, er, health insurance reform, to the liberal barons who control the U.S. House and Senate; and it was bad enough when he decided to go on an unemployment "listening tour," instead of actually doing something to actually alleviate unemployment.

Lately, however, Obama's been dicking and dithering -- and fucking bowing -- around in ways that make us all less safe. That should scare the you-know-what out of us all.

First of all, absolutely no good will come from trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other "9/11" terrorists in a civilian court in NYC. Given that KSM and his cohorts' lawyers have promised to turn the proceedings into a spectacle in which "enhanced interrogation," the George W. Bush Administration, and the entire War on Terror is put on trial; and given that NYC is gonna be a perfect target for terrorist activity before, during, and after the KSM spectacle; and given that it's not entirely out of the realm of impossibility that KSM et al. could be found not guilty ... there is absolutely no excuse for Obama to allow his attorney general to proceed with his self-proclaimed "Trial of the Century."

Breaking news this evening tells us that Obama will address the nation next week to announce how he intends to bring the Afghan War to a successful conclusion. At least I think he's gonna talk about "success" and "victory" and the like. Nevertheless, Obama was told by the generals who're fighting the Necessary War back in August that they needed more troops or their cause would soon be lost. The President has been holding meetings and councils -- and he's been lending way too big an ear (no pun intended) to his bumbling Vice President's assertions that the Taliban can be defeated with CIA drones, Navy SEALs, G.I. Joe and nothing else. Obama's fucking around on Afghanistan surely has given hope to the Taliban that the U.S. will soon abandon the battlefield. (Such fucking around certainly didn't boost the morale of U.S. troops as dozens of their brothers died while Obama dithered.)

Obama could do two things next week during his prime time address next week to make me admire him a whole hell of a lot more than I do right now: First, announce that KSM and his brothers in terror will be judged by military tribunals; and second, announce that Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal's counter-insurgency plan will be fully implemented, with 40,000 troops being the floor of the Afghan Surge.

Straw Man, I'm [not] together with your plan (apologies to Soundgarden)

Last week in the Nashville City Paper, U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Nashville) published an op-ed entitled "The problem with the status quo." Here's the concluding paragraph:

Keeping today’s sickness care non-system is not a viable option. It not only needs to be changed, it is collapsing on its own weight. Congress is having some difficulty agreeing on the most necessary improvements, but that debate is necessary. There are ways to reform the non-system that we can agree on that will make all Americans, and America itself, healthier and stronger.

Of course, no one in America is arguing that the status quo vis-à-vis health-care should be maintained -- insurance execs included. Cooper is merely ripping a page from his boss's playbook (his boss being Nancy Pelosi) when he props up such a straw man.

If Cooper really wanted to "reform" America's "non-system" of health care, he could do so in a profound way, almost overnight. All he'd have to do is sponsor a bill for medical malpractice reform, expanded Medical Savings Accounts, and reforming the IRS "code" to give individuals the same tax breaks that companies get when it comes to purchasing health insurance.

Every Republican in the U.S. House, as well as a great many of his "Blue Dog" colleagues [I'll have more to say about Jim Cooper the Blue Dog at a later date], would get behind his effort, and he'd be the Champion of health care Choice and Competition ... which, supposedly, is the Holy Grail of the B. Hussein Obama Administration.

Cooper ain't gonna do all that, however, and we all know it. Jerry Lee will kick him square in the balls - literally and monetarily - if he does.

Who can touch this?!

If you didn't witness it, you need to know that the scene featuring MC Hammer and Corey Feldman rowing a boat -- in circles -- during The Surreal Life's first season is one of TV's greatest moments.

Speaking o' MC Hammer 'n' Corey Feldman, check this out ...

5 Times MC Hammer Changed History

...

4. Marrying Corey Feldman

How fitting that this wedding would be aired on the VH1 show The Surreal Life, because what could be more surreal than a wedding that includes Hammer, a rabbi, Gary Coleman and Mouth from The Goonies? ‘80s star Feldman was wed to his girlfriend Susie Sprague on the season finale of the reality show and had Hammer, along with a rabbi, officiate the ceremony, which was put together in one week (see a video here). Hammer is an ordained minister who also officiated the wedding of Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil. Hammer has starred in his own ministry show and has been open about his faith and role as a minister, though never with as much star power as at Feldman’s wedding.

Just so you know

John Nolte has a great theory to explain why much of Hollywood loves dictators like Fidel, Hugo, and ... Obama?! To wit:

When you and I picture life under Obama’s vision for America, we see a dreary existence spent in breadlines, drab apartments and small jail cells with rat cages strapped to our face conditioning us to say "Herstory" instead of “History.” These Castro-lovers and Polanski-defenders see something completely different.

Watch "The Lives of Others." Not only is it one of the best films of the decade, it also answers the opening question. You’ll see how life under fascism is the complete fulfillment of every narcissistic desire Susan Sarandon, Barbra Streisand, Oliver Stone, Sean Penn and the rest of their sorry lot has ever had.

Leftist Hollywood is not driven by wealth or artistic freedom, they’re driven by status and the insatiable need to be unconditionally adored. Unfortunately for them, as actors in America, status and adoration is tied to awards and the size of the paycheck – in other words competition and a free market – which they hate. But that’s the least of their worries. All this messy American capitalism forces our favorite artistes into the undignified position of having to beg for money in order to have the millions necessary to watch themselves be all artistic on the big screen, and all this messy American free expression allows people like you and me to criticize and ridicule their hard self-serving work.

Not so under a dictatorship.

The way they see it, with the right dictator, the State would hand them money for film projects and jail anyone who criticized them in print or elsewhere. Hugo Chavez shutting television stations down doesn’t horrify Leftist Hollywood, it makes them giddy.

Your tax dollars at work (redux)

It's a sad day when it's left to the likes of the National Enquirer (November 2, 2009 issue) to tell an important truth 'bout President B. Hussein Obama's "stimulus." To wit:

Politicians are spending up to $20 million in tax-payers' money to put signs on highway improvement projects funded by the government stimulus package.

Opponents say the signs are nothing but an opportunity for elected officials to blow their own horn - while taxpayers foot the bill. ...

The signs say "Putting America to Work" and "Project Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act." they cost $500 apiece in Maryland and New Hampshire, $2,000 in Pennsylvania and $3,000 in New Jersey. ...

An amendment to ban the signs was proposed by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), but it was defeated in the Senate.

Before you poo-poo a "news" story from the National Enquirer, remember: If not for NE's fearless snoops, John Edwards' love-child would've never been revealed, and the sneaky, cheatin' sombitch might've become U.S. Attorney General.

So there.

Political correctness is gonna kill us (literally)

Yeah
It's gonna kill me

-- Filter

Back in the 40s, during dubya-dubya two, if any serviceman had given any indication that he sympathized with America's enemies, i.e., Nazis and Tōjō's, he would've been immediately discharged, and probably put behind bars.

That said, I'm beginning to think -- no, wait, I know -- that the politically-correct ethos that's now the norm in the U.S.A., and which's slithered its way into "conservative" institutions like the military, is what caused the Ft. Hood Massacre.

Sometime in 2007, Major Nidal M. Hasan stood before a gathering of Senior Army officers, and he was supposed to talk about medical stuff. Instead, he gave a presentation on how to be a good Jihad-lovin' Muslim ... and not one fuckin' eyebrow -- officially -- was raised. Why?

The current Weekly Standard connects the dots vis-à-vis one Nidal M. Hasan, and it ain't pretty. Check it out here.

You know, it was bad enough when political correctness ruined America's universities with institutional groupthink, "speech codes," and Women Good, Men Bad/Third World Good, West Bad theorizing, but now, as the Weekly Standard reports, fealty to political correctness in the ranks of the U.S. military has led to spilt blood.

President B. Hussein Obama likes to talk about "teachable moments." Unlike the convoluted "beer summit," what happened at Ft. Hood is a true teachable moment 'bout what happens when PC bullshit becomes the de facto law of the land. I have a feeling, however, that Obama and his leftist cohorts aren't going to learn nothing from it ... and America's slouch toward Gomorah is gonna be the inexorable result.

Your tax dollars at work

From the November 23 National Review:

It is almost impossible to hand out truckloads of cash without some of it falling into the hands of swindlers, but Congress’s stimulus dollars seem to have been particularly susceptible to graft. This year, lawmakers expanded a program that gave first-time homebuyers a tax credit worth 10 percent of the purchase price, up to $8,000. (People who owed less in taxes than the credit was worth got checks for the difference.) The problem? As Kevin Hassett detailed in a Bloomberg.com commentary, there is no reliable way to tell whether someone is buying a home for the first time; and worse, the law did not give the IRS the authority to demand documentation that a home had been purchased at all. Anyone could simply assert that the government owed him $8,000. When the Treasury Department investigated, it found 19,300 claims based on homes that had not yet been purchased, 74,000 claims by taxpayers who probably were not first-time buyers, and more than 580 claims by taxpayers who were younger than 18 (some as young as four). They amounted to about $504 million in stolen taxpayer money. We can only hope the fraudsters spent it in a stimulative manner.

If that don't get you agitated, nothing will.

Speaking of Cuba ...

Michael Moore, Sean Penn, U.S. Rep. Diane Watson, and all the hipster doofi who wear "Che" T-shirts need to watch this ...

A picture of an idiot (and a law-breaker) in action

Hardly a spring or summer weekend goes by when there isn't a group of individuals -- religious folk, little league sports teams, bowtied Nation of Islam dudes -- approaching cars at the busiest intersection near Hickory Hollow Mall. I've always thought such, well, begging is extremely dangerous. Furthermore, I'd like to think that a feller should be able to stop at a red light without having someone approach his car with a big bucket with "please donate" scrawled 'cross it.

Such activity is, of course, illegal. No matter how worthy the cause, people who walk amongst traffic asking for money are engaging in panhandling, pure and simple. I've asked several Metro Council members over the years to put a stop to such panhandling, but the buckets and beggars return each spring like the swallows in San Juan Capistrano.

That said, I want you to take a look at a picture I snapped today:

That's a lady holding a "Support Metro Police Charities" sign. She and about two dozen other folks, some holding signs and others holding buckets, were standing in the middle of the Harding Place/Nolensville Road intersection at 11 a.m. To say that they were disrupting the flow of traffic is an understatement.

I traveled a bit further down Nolensville Road only to witness a similar scene at the Thompson Lane intersection. Traffic was even more f'ed up there as a result of the "Metro Police" beggars.

Now you would think that folks affiliated with the police department would know that such activity is illegal. Hell, I would like to think that the police beggars would know how stupid it is to stand in the middle of two of Nashville's busiest intersections, on a Saturday with mild weather and lots of cars on the road.

Rest assured that my anger will be duly registered with local elected officials.

Who wants to be a conservative?

President B. Hussein Obama may not know how to stimulate job growth, one thing he does know how to do, apparently, is stimulate more and more folks to identify themselves as conservative. To wit:

Ever since the election of Barack Obama, the number of self-identified conservatives has continued to skyrocket. A new Gallup poll find 40% of Americans now identify themselves as conservative, while only 20% say they’re liberal.

Viva Cuba!

I wonder if Michael Moore, Sean Penn, and U.S. Rep. Diane Watson read this:

Trail-blazing Cuban blogger Yoani Sánchez says she was headed to a peaceable march against violence with friends in Havana Friday when she and fellow writer Orlando Luis Pardo were confronted by three men in plainclothes presumed to be state security, forced into a car, and assaulted.

"No blood," she reported to El Nuevo Herald. "But black and blues, punches, pulled hairs, blows to the head, kidneys, knee and chest...[after being] thrown head-first inside, they applied judo or karate holds to us and the punches ... kept raining down."

Sánchez says she and Pardo were driven around for about 20 minutes before being "violently thrown on the street" near where they were first accosted. Their friends reported being taken to a police station in a second car, where they were questioned and released.

I wonder if the celebs and members of Congress who were so critical of President George W. Bush appreciate the fact that if they'd been in Cuba, and if they'd criticized the gov'ment there like they did here, they might've found themselves on the receiving end of a good beating ... or worse.

I first name-checked Ms. Sanchez back in 2007. Check it out here.

Ridin' the gov't rail ... to the poor house

Next time you hear some liberal spouting that public/private ObamaCare is gonna do great things for the American people, like saving money over the long run, let 'em know what great things public/private Amtrak is doin' ... like this:

U.S. taxpayers spent about $32 subsidizing the cost of the typical Amtrak passenger in 2008, about four times the rail operator's estimate, according to a private study.

If you've ever read Adam Smith, Thomas Sowell, Jude Wanniski, Gary Becker ... you know what I'm talkin' about. Indeed.

"The cat is raaaaaaaa outta the bag!" -- Cosmo Kramer

In the October 29-November 4 Nashville Scene, Brantley Hargrove talks about U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper's 15-year-history fightin' in the "health car wars." In his essay, Brantley says we conservatives who oppose ObamaCare are "ginning up Big Government paranoia," just like we did back in 1993.

I hate to break it to Mr. Hargrove, but today's Wall Street Journal lets a big-ass cat outta a big-ass bag as it relates to health care, er, health insurance reform: If the monstrosity that squeaked through the U.S. House over the weekend ever becomes law, well, we might as well just re-name the country The United Statists of America.

Here's the Big Gov't rumpus (apologies to the Coen Brothers):

The typical argument for ObamaCare is that it will offer better medical care for everyone and cost less to do it, but occasionally a supporter lets the mask slip and reveals the real political motivation. So let's give credit to John Cassidy, part of the left-wing stable at the New Yorker, who wrote last week on its Web site that "it's important to be clear about what the reform amounts to."

Mr. Cassidy is more honest than the politicians whose dishonesty he supports. "The U.S. government is making a costly and open-ended commitment," he writes. "Let's not pretend that it isn't a big deal, or that it will be self-financing, or that it will work out exactly as planned. It won't. What is really unfolding, I suspect, is the scenario that many conservatives feared. The Obama Administration ... is creating a new entitlement program, which, once established, will be virtually impossible to rescind."

Why are they doing it? Because, according to Mr. Cassidy, ObamaCare serves the twin goals of "making the United States a more equitable country" and furthering the Democrats' "political calculus." In other words, the purpose is to further redistribute income by putting health care further under government control, and in the process making the middle class more dependent on government. As the party of government, Democrats will benefit over the long run.

This explains why Nancy Pelosi is willing to risk the seats of so many Blue Dog Democrats by forcing such an unpopular bill through Congress on a narrow, partisan vote: You have to break a few eggs to make a permanent welfare state. As Mr. Cassidy concludes, "Putting on my amateur historian's cap, I might even claim that some subterfuge is historically necessary to get great reforms enacted."

No wonder many Americans are upset. They know they are being lied to about ObamaCare, and they know they are going to be stuck with the bill.

UPDATE: Speaking of Rep. Jim "He Who Has No Uppper Lip" Cooper and ObamaCare, and the Wall Street Journal, check this out:

Perhaps the most unsurprising news in this drama was the collapse of the Blue Dog "deficit hawks." Enough of them always cave in the end to give Mrs. Pelosi her way. It's nonetheless worth noting the surrender of that most vocal scourge of deficits, Tennessee's Jim Cooper, who voted aye on grounds that the bill can be improved in the Senate. ...

Mr. Cooper has with a single vote made his entire career irrelevant.

I'll have more to say 'bout Rep. Coop at a later date.

Bawney Fwank is a fuckin' liar

Barney Frank is nearly 70-years-old. He's been in the U.S. Congress since 1981. He was an attorney before that. And now he expects us to believe that he don't know that a marijuana plant looks like ... 'cause he ain't "a great outdoorsman" ...?!

Check this out:

FOX25 has learned that Congressman Barney Frank was present during a marijuana arrest at James Ready's home in Ogunquit, Maine. Ready is well-known for his relationship with Congressman Frank.

According to a police report, police charged Ready with marijuana possession, cultivation and use of drug paraphernalia in August of 2007. Ready admitted to civil possession and paid a fine. The remaining charges were dismissed in 2008.

Sources tell FOX25 that when Frank was questioned he told police that he did not live in the house and that he only smoked cigars.

Congressman Frank tells FOX25 that he was surprised and disappointed with what police found. He also tells us that he wouldn't recognize a marijuana plant if he saw one because he is, "not a great outdoorsman," and, "wouldn't recognize most plants."

After midnight

After midnight
We're gonna let it all hang down
After midnight
We're gonna chug-a-lug and shout

-- Eric Clapton

Well ...

It looks like the U.S. House of Representative's vote on SocialistCare, er, OmabaCare will take place sometime after midnight. I have to say that I'm a weeee bit surprised that Tennessee Reps John Tanner and Bart Gordon have announced they're "no" votes ...

Wait, could it be that twenty-year-serving John Tanner's sweating the fact that his GOP opponent raised more money than him last quarter?

Could it be that Bart Gordon knows that he's going to get a GOP re-districting bitch-slap in 2011?

To borrow a line from Chet in Weird Science, I wouldn't give a squirt of piss for John Tanner or Bart Gordon's ass right now. After their years of supporting the likes of Jim Wright, Tom Foley, and Pee-losi ... well, addin' that support to Obama's SocialistCare, they're gonna have some 'splainin' to do (apologies to a certain Cuban feller) to the conservative-votin' folks in Tennessee.

So there.

Re: Ft. Hood

President B. Hussein Obama says we shouldn't rush to judge the motives of the Army dude who murdered a dozen folks, and wounded two-dozen more, at Ft. Hood.

Even though the Army dude in question -- I refuse to re-print his name -- shouted "Allahu Akbar!" during his kill-crazy rampage; and even though he was reprimanded for trying to convert his patients to Islam when he served as an Army doctor; and even when it came to light that the Army dude in question attended services in a mosque in which anti-American sermons were preached, Obama don't want to do no judgement-passing.

Question: How long did it take Obama to peg the cops who arrested his disorderly-conducting friend, Henry Louis Gates, as a bunch of knuckle-thumping racists?

Answer: 'Bout 45 minutes, after which the infamous "Beer Summit" -- which will no doubt go down in history as one of the most asinine endeavors in which a U.S. President ever took part -- was planned.

Nancy Pelosi is a fuckin' liar

From TWS:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was "absolutely" committed to doing so.

From TWS in September:

TWS: Madam Speaker, do you support the measure to put the final House bill online for 72 hours before it's voted on at the very end?

Speaker Pelosi: Absolutely. Without question.

What a lying liar Pelosi is! And just think:

Tennessee Reps Steve Cohen, John Tanner, Bart Gordon, Lincoln Davis, and Jim Cooper voted for her lying ass ...

"Special Election"-eve special prediction ...

Come Wednesday morning, President B. Hussein Obama's press dude, the intellectually-inept Robert Gibbs, is gonna have lots of 'splain' to do ...

Just you wait and see.

I couldn't agree more ...

In a rational political world, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's 1,990-page health care reform bill released last Thursday would have been derailed months ago. With spending and debt already at record peacetime levels, the bill creates a new and probably unrepealable middle-class entitlement that is designed to expand over time. Taxes will need to rise precipitously, even as ObamaCare so dramatically expands government control of health care that eventually all medicine will be rationed via politics, says the Wall Street Journal.
